Alcohol’s Many Effects<\/h3>\n

Out of all the mind-altering substances, alcohol<\/a> is one of the most harmful and damaging to the human body.\u00a0\u00a0Society encourages the idea that alcohol is a \u201clesser demon\u201d because it\u2019s legal.\u00a0\u00a0But this isn\u2019t true.\u00a0\u00a0Nobody should take alcoholism lightly. Alcohol abuse is a serious problem with serious effects.<\/p>\n

Chronic alcohol abusers experience dozens of dangerous symptoms, many of which the general public aren\u2019t aware of.\u00a0\u00a0This article will explore some of those symptoms as well as what to do if you\u2019re experiencing any of them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Physical Dependence\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the beginning of an alcoholic\u2019s drinking career, severe health consequences probably haven\u2019t arisen yet.\u00a0\u00a0But one of first consequences to happen will be physical dependence.\u00a0\u00a0Like heroin and other opiates, alcohol is physically addictive.\u00a0\u00a0The body becomes dependent on it and becomes violently ill without it.\u00a0\u00a0However, unlike heroin, the withdrawal from alcohol is deadly.\u00a0\u00a0This means that without supervised medical care,<\/a> one can experience seizures, hallucinations, and death.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Physical Deterioration<\/strong><\/h3>\n

But the problems don\u2019t only come from withdrawals.\u00a0\u00a0There\u2019s other physical complications that occur with heavy alcohol consumption. Many of these effects manifest over time as the person continues to abuse alcohol. Fortunately, when someone stops drinking, a lot of the physical problems will improve.<\/p>\n

Digestive System<\/h4>\n

Drinking alcohol on a regular basis damages the lining of the stomach.\u00a0\u00a0That’s the reason nausea and heartburn go hand in hand with alcohol abuse.\u00a0\u00a0Over time, it leads to bloating, extreme gas, and even painful ulcers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Malnutrition<\/h4>\n

Damage to the digestive system also prevents the body from absorbing all the vitamins and nutrients it needs from food intake.\u00a0\u00a0This is the main cause of malnutrition in an alcoholic\u2019s body.\u00a0\u00a0At the same time, fatigue can strike.\u00a0\u00a0Not only because of the malnutrition, but because anemia is yet another complication of alcohol abuse.<\/p>\n

The same deterioration happens to muscles throughout the entire body.\u00a0\u00a0Many alcoholics will begin to experience weakness, severe cramping, and eventually, muscle death.\u00a0\u00a0If they aren\u2019t feeling pain, they may notice a tingling sensation in their hands & feet.\u00a0\u00a0This can happen when there\u2019s damage to the central nervous system.<\/p>\n

Osteoporosis<\/h4>\n

The human bone structure also suffers from alcohol abuse.\u00a0\u00a0Chronic alcohol abusers raise their chances of developing osteoporosis.\u00a0\u00a0This is the thinning and weakening of bones.\u00a0\u00a0The chances of falling and breaking a bone raise drastically.\u00a0\u00a0It also means that the mending of that broken bone will take much longer than it would for a healthy person.<\/p>\n

The Immune System<\/h4>\n

Alcoholics and others who drink on a regular basis make it harder for their bodies to fight off bacteria and viruses.\u00a0\u00a0Their immune systems are not what they should be because of the alcohol.\u00a0\u00a0This makes them extremely susceptible to illnesses such as pneumonia and Tuberculosis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Heart & Liver<\/strong><\/h4>\n

One thing people might not know is that chronic alcohol abuse is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease.\u00a0\u00a0 The heart, along with the liver, experiences extreme damage from alcohol.\u00a0\u00a0Alcohol prevents the liver from being able to expel harmful toxins from the body.\u00a0\u00a0Over time these toxins can build up and make a person feel sick.\u00a0\u00a0Eventually alcohol degrades the liver so much that people suffer from liver disease and liver failure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Pancreas<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Heavy drinking can also affect the pancreas.\u00a0\u00a0The pancreas is the organ that regulates blood sugar.\u00a0\u00a0Alcoholism is the most important risk factor for developing pancreatitis.\u00a0\u00a0It happens so often in alcoholics that, in time, the repeated pancreatitis causes permanent damage.\u00a0\u00a0It also stops the body from being able to balance blood sugar properly.\u00a0\u00a0This can cause diabetic complications in the body, or even lead to diagnosable diabetes in people who never have had it before.<\/p>\n

C<\/strong>ancer<\/h4>\n

Finally, chronic alcohol abusers are much more likely to develop cancer than non-drinkers.\u00a0\u00a0The most common are throat, mouth, and esophagus cancers.\u00a0\u00a0And in women, breast cancer is more common in alcoholics.<\/p>\n

Alcohol Affects Sex?\u00a0\u00a0Yes, It Does<\/strong>!<\/h3>\n

After all the problems listed above, alcohol abuse adds insult to injury by damaging reproductive organs and processes. Alcohol has severe effects on sex organs in both males and females.\u00a0\u00a0In males, alcohol causes sexual dysfunction.\u00a0\u00a0Men who struggle with alcohol abuse has a much higher chance of developing Erectile Dysfunction.\u00a0\u00a0And for women, chronic alcohol abuse leads to infertility.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Furthermore, alcohol use is a serious concern if a woman is pregnant.\u00a0It doesn\u2019t take very much alcohol to cause severe birth defects in the womb.\u00a0\u00a0This means that after birth, the development of the child may be stunted.\u00a0\u00a0In some cases, the child may suffer from FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
